New REE white paper online

A new white paper on rare earths extraction from bastnaesite is now available for download.

The paper “Extraction of rare earths from bastnaesite” presents different extraction methods depending on the exact mineralogical composition of a bastnaesite ore.

Bastnaesite is the economically most important rare earth fluoro-carbonate contained in the major REE-deposits. The choice of extraction method critically depends on the specific composition of the ore, especially carbonatic side minerals such as calcite, aragonite, strontianite or dolomite, which can rarely be removed completely during physical processing. The white paper is meant to shed a light on ways to address these remnant minerals in subsequent hydrometallurgical steps.
